Bob Green appointed to CT DMV Committee on Teen Safe Driving Press Release - Lakeville, Ct – May 9, 2012 . Melody Currey, the CT DMV Commissioner, has appointed Bob Green, driver safety advocate and director of Survive the Drive, Inc, and other safety minded individuals to team up on an Advisory Committee for Teen Driver Safety. On the committee, Green will focus on ways to help safeguard our youthful Connecticut drivers; review and recommend improvements on how our teens are trained, regulated, evaluated and licensed. ‘Connecticut’s most recent ‘graduated licensing’ requirements and standards are a good first step toward keeping our kids out of harm’s way. Those teens who delay getting their license until they are 18, avoiding those earlier restrictions and scrutiny are the next most vulnerable group.’ There is more work to be done. ‘Regulations can’t do everything, nor can committees. There must be an improvement in preventive understanding and behavior. How can we make the process work better, keep our teens safer and prevent these tragedies?’ The committee will next meet in June. “I am pleased to join this group and hope to see positive steps taken to ensure the safety of our communities, towns and cities. Facts from the United Nations and World Health Organization show car crashes to top the list as the leading cause of violence; injury and fatality on the planet. . . . and in our communities too,” stated Green. Green has presented his evolving Survive the Drive multimedia teen driver safety program to over 120,000 teen students in high school assemblies since 1996. He attended training with the American Driver and Traffic Safety Educational Association and was seated on a National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration ‘Teen Driver – Graduated Licensing’ advisory committee in 1998. Since, he has made presentations to national conferences of ADTSEA, the SAE, SADD at MIT and UMass and at a technical conference in Vienna, Austria.
